This St. Patrick’s Day themed activity will help your kids practice comparing numbers using the concepts of greater than, less than and equal to!

As kids learn what numbers represent and counting in order, they are ready to start comparing numbers. This hands-on St. Patrick’s Day math activity is a great way to start introducing the terms “greater than”, “less than” and “equal to”.
How the Leprechaun Comparison Game Works:
To prep, simply print out the cards and cut them out. You can print them on cardstock or laminate for extra durability.
This game makes learning these concepts a breeze! Here’s how to play:
- Shuffle the Cards: Start by shuffling the number cards – get those lucky charms mixed up!
- Pick Two Numbers: Let your kids choose two cards, revealing two numbers ready for comparison.
- The Leprechaun Knows: It’s time to introduce the Leprechaun comparison symbols – greater than (>), less than (<), and equal to (=).
- Make the Comparison: Your kids will analyze the two numbers and decide which is greater, which is less, or if they are equal. They’ll then place the correct Leprechaun comparison symbol between the numbers. For example, if they draw a 5 and an 8, they’ll place the “<” (less than) symbol between them, creating the equation 5 < 8.

This set feature numbers up to 9, but you can differentiate this activity by simply placing the number cards next to each other to build and compare two-digit numbers, or more!

Why This Game is Gold!
