Rain Cloud Beginning Sounds Matching Activity: Fun Phonics Practice for Early Learners
Perfect for Seasonal Literacy Centers, Phonemic Awareness, and Early Reading Skill Development
Are you looking for an engaging way to help young learners master phonics?
This printable phonics game is designed to help preschool and kindergarten students practice letter-sound correspondence in a fun, interactive way. Featuring colorful clouds and raindrops, it’s a great addition to your phonics curriculum, seasonal literacy centers, or reading intervention program.
What Is the Rain Cloud Beginning Sounds Matching Activity?
The Rain Cloud Beginning Sounds Match is a hands-on phonics game that helps children practice identifying beginning sounds. Students match raindrops with letter clouds, with each raindrop featuring a picture of a word that begins with the same sound as the letter on the cloud. For example, the letter “B” cloud might be paired with raindrops featuring a brush, banana, bag, and ballons.
This activity includes 26 letter clouds, each with 4 corresponding raindrops for a total of 13 printable pages. You can easily print the pages, laminate them for durability, and use them year after year for phonics practice in your classroom or at home.
Why This Activity Is Great for Early Learners
Supports Phonemic Awareness
Phonemic awareness is a crucial skill for early readers, and this activity helps students practice recognizing beginning sounds. By matching raindrops to the correct letter clouds, kids reinforce their understanding of letter-sound correspondence, an essential foundation for reading.
Engaging and Interactive
Instead of traditional worksheets, this activity provides a hands-on approach to learning. The cloud and raindrop theme is visually appealing and adds a fun seasonal element, making it perfect for spring or fall literacy centers. The interactive nature of the activity helps keep students focused and excited about learning.

Flexible for Different Skill Levels
This activity is incredibly versatile. You can start with just a few letter clouds and raindrops for beginners, and gradually add more as students become more comfortable. For more advanced learners, you can use all 26 letters to create a larger challenge. This makes it easy to differentiate instruction based on students’ abilities.
Seasonal Theme for Classroom Fun
The raindrop and cloud design fits perfectly into a spring or fall theme, making it an ideal resource for seasonal literacy centers. Whether you’re teaching a unit on weather, seasonal changes, or simply looking for a fun, themed phonics game, this printable activity adds a touch of fun to your classroom lessons.

Hi there,
Let me just start by saying your material is very nice!
2 questions if I may.
1. Could there be a way of getting the NUMBER MATCH BUNDLE and the LETTER MATCH BUNDLE in black and white only?
I am running out of colour and as we are in lock down currently, it would be hard to go and buy more, I guess I could order it, but the whole situation got me thinking that I could paint them myself.
2. For the RAIN CLOUD BEGINNING SOUNDS MATCH again do you have it in black and white and also, could I get an extra set of the 4 diff drops without any object in?
I am in Belgium and speak Dutch to my daughter, so, some of the drawings wont match, so I want to have a set of empty ones to create to complete the 4 per cloud when the letters don’t match the objects.
Thank you very much for your response and I hope you are having a great day!
Hi,
thank you! I’m very happy you like the printables. Of those, the ones that include black & white versions are only the Caterpillar Number Match & Build a Flower Number Match. Unfortunately, I don’t have the black & white version of the Rain Cloud Beginning Sounds Match.
Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with.
Have a great day,
Sandra
