Cork Sail Boats
This week we took a few days off and went to the seaside. It was a lovely vacation even though it was quite windy which means there was quite a bit of waves. But we didn’t let that hold us back and we successfully launched our home made cork sail boats which I mostly prepared at home ahead of time.
These little sail boats are super cute and easy to make. I found an inspiration for this project here and here. Now get ready for a summer sailing adventure at home or right at the seaside! ๐
MATERIALS (for one sail boat):
- 3 corks
- 1 toothpick
- 2 rubber bands
- a small piece of craft foam
Instructions:
To start off, cut a small triangle from a piece of craft foam which will serve as a sail. Then prepare a few rubber bands, a tooth pick and three corks.
Bind all three corks with the rubber bands and stick the toothpick into the middle one. Make a hole on each side of the sail and carefully attach the toothpick.
And now the cork sail boats are ready for their first sea adventure! ๐
Even though we had a bit of waves when we launched the sail boats, they did very well. The calmer the sea the better they’ll do, as a bigger wave will capsize them. If that happens it’s not a problem because they’re completely waterproof and almost indestructible. ๐
Since the sail boats include a toothpick, you should be the judge if it’s appropriate for your child to play with these cork sail boats. I kept a close eye on my daughter. To make the whole thing a bit safer for smaller kids, cut the top end of the tooth pick so it’s not as sharp.
